Little Legacies Academy is an Early Childhood Development centre on 67 Kromboom Road in Rondebosch East, taking children from 3 months to 5 years. It is a converted house rather than an institution — fenced, gated, painted blue, and hard to walk past without smiling at.
What we are trying to do.
The first five years decide more than most people realise. Not because a three-year-old needs to be taught algebra, but because this is when a child works out whether the world is a safe place, whether adults listen, whether trying something difficult is worth it. That is the ground everything else gets built on — and it is why the phrase on our sign is where little minds grow big futures, rather than something about results.
So the day here is built around two things. Children are kept safe, warm, fed and calm. And they are given plenty to do with their hands, their bodies and their words, because at this age that is what learning looks like from the outside.
Play-based learning, properly meant.
“Play-based” is a phrase every centre uses, so it is worth saying what we mean by it. It does not mean children are left to entertain themselves. It means the adult sets up the activity with a purpose — threading beads because it builds the grip a pencil will need, sorting shapes because it is the beginning of maths, arguing over whose turn it is because that is how sharing gets learned — and then lets the child do the work.
Alongside that there is real structure. A rhythm to the day, so children know what is coming. Story time. Songs. The days of the week, the months, the numbers, the colours, on the wall where they can see them.

The property is enclosed with a white palisade fence and a low picket fence along the pavement, with a single gated entrance onto 67 Kromboom Road. Children play inside that line, not outside it.
Inside, the facilities are kept secure and hygienic — which for children of this age mostly means the boring, relentless work of clean hands, clean surfaces and clean bathrooms, done properly every day.

How big is the centre?
Small, and deliberately so. It is a converted house on Kromboom Road rather than an institution, which is why children get noticed rather than processed.
Is the property secure?
Yes. The grounds are fenced on all sides with a palisade fence and a gated front entrance, and the play area is enclosed.
What is your approach to learning?
Play-based. Children of this age learn by doing, handling, repeating and talking about things. Structured learning is built into that rather than replacing it.
Do you offer religious instruction?
An optional Madrassah programme runs in the afternoons in partnership with Madrassa An-nur Wal-huda. A non-religious aftercare option runs alongside it. Families choose.
