Getting ready for
big school.
Our preschool group is where everything starts to come together. Children of three, four and five spend the day building the things Grade R will ask of them — recognising letters and numbers, listening to a story right to the end, holding a pencil properly, tidying up after themselves and getting along with the child next to them. It happens through play, because that is how children of this age actually learn.

Letters, numbers and early writing
Recognising the alphabet and counting, and the fine-motor work — cutting, threading, drawing — that has to come before handwriting.

Stories and language
Daily story time, songs and rhymes, and plenty of talking. Children who are read to every day arrive at school with a bigger vocabulary.

Creative learning programmes
Painting, collage, building and dress-up. It looks like play from the doorway, and it is also how a child learns to plan, share and finish something.

Getting on with other children
Taking turns, asking instead of grabbing, saying sorry and meaning it. This is the part that decides how the first year of school goes.
Practical
Times, and how to start.
The centre is open from 06:30 every weekday. Registration for 2027 is open, and spaces in each age group are limited — so the useful first step is simply to ask whether we have room.

Doors open at 06:30 every weekday, which is early enough for most shifts and the morning traffic on the M5.

Questions about this group.
Will my child be ready for Grade R?
That is the whole point of this group. The work is aimed squarely at school readiness — the letters and numbers side of it, and just as importantly the sitting, listening, sharing and self-care side that schools quietly expect.
Is it all worksheets?
No. At this age children learn by doing. There is structured, purposeful work every day, but it is built into play, art, stories and hands-on activities rather than delivered as a page of sums.
My child is shy. Will they cope?
Most children are, at first. Settling in takes a week or two and we do it gently, at the child’s pace. Come and see the room with your child before you decide — it makes the first morning much easier.

- 01 Babies 3 to 18 months Care for the very small, from three months. Feeding, sleeping and safe, unhurried attention on your baby’s own routine.
- 02 Toddlers 18 months to 3 years Walking, talking, testing everything. Room to move, gentle routine and a lot of patience.
- 03 Aftercare & Madrassah Weekday afternoons, 14:00–17:30 Afternoon care from 14:00 to 17:30, with an optional Madrassah programme run with Madrassa An-nur Wal-huda.
